    Bully Pulpit Interactive (BPI) is a marketing and communications agency based in Washington, DC and New York City. We serve some of the biggest names in the corporate, non-profit and political arenas.

    We are looking for a Database Analyst & Manager in our DC office. The ideal candidate is someone who thinks in excel formulas, strives to make systems more dynamic and dreams of innovating and streamlining data for some of the world’s most influential players.

    This position reports directly to a Senior Director and works collaboratively with a team of 4-5 individuals as well as additional project opportunities across the company depending on candidate specialization or experience.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage & upgrade data systems & procedures for some of the world’s top companies, non-profits and campaigns
    • Integrate reports with digital marketing team members
    • Manage relationships with outside data vendors as necessary
    • Project manage releases, coding, loading and validation of outbound email campaigns
    • Other related duties as assigned and as engagements evolve

    Qualifications:

    • Strong knowledge of CRM systems, including Salesforce and mass mailers such as ExactTarget, NGP, Hubspot or Pardot
    • Salesforce certification preferred but not necessary
    • Proficient in MySQL databases
    • Strong background in HTML/CSS and CMS platforms such as WordPress, proficient knowledge of Java
    • Bachelor's Degree preferred in mathematics, computer science, economics or related area
    • 2-3 years experience as data manager or analyst

  • Direct Marketing Strategist (New York & Washington, DC)

    BPI is seeking full time direct marketing strategists to join our growing team in both New York and DC. The applicants should have experience in conceiving, launching, optimizing, and reporting on performance-focused digital advertising campaigns. The strategists will be charged with managing the digital advertising program performance of advocacy movements, non-profit organizations, and corporate affairs initiatives.

    Responsibilities

    • Advise nonprofits, advocacy groups, and corporations on paid media strategy
    • Create digital advertising campaigns across a variety of platforms, including search, display, and social
    • Optimize campaigns to achieve peak performance in terms of CPA and ROI
    • Draft advertising copy (text + graphics) for new and existing campaigns
    • Prepare comprehensive performance reports and generate insights to create a client-facing narrative from large datasets
    • Conduct A/B and multivariate testing of ad copy and landing pages

    Required Experience and Skills

    • 2+ years’ experience managing direct response advertising campaigns on search and Facebook
    • Experience with platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and general RTB environments a plus
    • Familiarity with analytics platforms such as Google Analytics and Omniture
    • Strong analytical abilities and ability to communicate results to senior-level audiences
    • Fluency in Microsoft Excel (VBA knowledge a plus)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with A/B testing programs such as Optimizely a plus.

  • Media Associate/Jr. Media Planner

    Mission: Timely launch and execution of all media campaigns while adhering to BPI’s quality standards.

    Result: Successful campaign executions.

    External Activities:

    • Assist Media Planner in vendor communications, sending Requests For Proposals (RFPs) or Information (RFIs), and in negotiating rates, terms and conditions, added value, etc.
    • Request screenshots from vendors.

    Internal Activities:

    • Work with the Media Planner to build media plans, book buys, create IOs, etc.
    • Create supporting documents (e.g. flowcharts, decks, pacing docs, etc.) for campaigns as requested by the Media Planner.
    • Set up and manage client folders in the shared drive to ensure all documents pertaining to a campaign are accessible to the team.
    • Once Media Planner has approved buys to be booked, print and request signature for all Insertion Orders (IO) that are to then be organized and filed in the shared drive.
    • Fill out the trafficking request sheet with buy details in order to minimize confusion, ambiguity, and wasted time when setting up campaigns in DFA.
    • For campaigns run in TradeDesk and/or Brightroll, launch in the platforms after receiving tags from our internal Ad Ops.
    • Pull daily reporting to monitor pacing and inform media planner of suggested optimizations in order to improve delivery speed and campaign performance.
    • Monitor spend daily to ensure campaigns do not over- or under-deliver. Alert Media Planner of any issues asap.
    • Create internal and external facing reports for the Media Planner and Client Lead throughout the campaign as well as a final recap once a campaign has ended.
    • Update the master vendor contact sheet on the shared drive as needed.

  • Senior Media Director (Washington, DC)

    Mission: Oversee the creation of strategic media plans for our roster of clients in the public affairs, issue advocacy, political and corporate spaces. Manage the workflow between business development, planners, buyers, and traffickers. Ensure media campaigns and deliverables meet or exceed the strategic requirements of clients and BPI’s quality standards.

    Result: Maintain and/or increased media spend within existing client accounts in conjunction with a positive internal environment and department structure that is positioned to meet deliverables, accommodate new business, and adjust to changing industry needs.

    External Activities:

    • Serve as the senior media expert for the agency and provide industry expertise and thought leadership on new digital channels, trends, risks, opportunities, and resources.
    • Act as a spokesperson for BPI at industry events.
    • Develop and nurture symbiotic relationships with key strategic partners/vendors.
    • Determine which vendors to partner with and negotiate company-­‐wide, full-­‐year upfront rates as needed.

    Internal Activities:

    Grow Our People

    • Oversee Media Associates and guide them in maintaining accountability for the quality and integrity of plans and in strategic development of media campaigns.
    • Encourage Media Associates to evaluate the success or failure of their digital campaigns, and help them determine the proper plan for course correction and/or continual success as appropriate.
    • Share/disseminate information to ensure that all media planners have the knowledge to become successful media consultants to our clients. Monitor trends and new developments in the industry and share those internally.
    • Manage the recruitment and professional development of the media team. This includes: identifying and leveraging talent, providing professional mentorship/development, empowering decision making when appropriate, and identifying and providing training options.
    • Cultivate loyalty and encourage employee retention by being a leader in the media space, providing regular and timely feedback and critics, encouraging and practicing collaboration, getting buy-­‐in by communicating growth opportunities, and maintaining an air of transparency that allows for trust to build.

    Grow Our Business

    • Lead and manage the relationships between the Media Department and the Client Leads.
    • Guide the Media Department in the development and execution of innovative media strategies and programs.
    • Determine the proper time allocation for campaigns based on timesheets and ROI and guide planners on how to spend their time.
    • Collaborate with Client Leads to identify opportunities for growth within existing client accounts and present new ideas to clients on an ongoing basis.
    • Contribute to new business pitches as a media expert for our marketing programs. Review and approve plan estimates for new business opportunities and collaborate with the Partners/Sales Leads to develop new product pricing and to navigate/resolve pricing issues as appropriate.
    • Coordinate with Ad Ops Director in the management of the ad operations process and ensure the Media Department is prepared to execute as needed and positioned for success in servicing clients.
    • Research, analyze, and monitor the impact of financial and technological factors on the digital media space in order to capitalize on market opportunities and minimize the effects of competitive activity.
    • Work with the Director of Technology & Innovation to establish success metrics and benchmarks to evaluate campaign performance.
    • Supervise Media Planners to ensure they are following the billing-­‐invoicing-­‐reconciliation process as dictated by Finance and oversee that the proper mark ups are included.
    • Set internal CPM goals for Media Planners and Media Associates to ensure they run efficient campaigns within DSP platforms.
    • Collaborate with Ad Ops Director and Director of Technology & Innovation to develop Best Practices that can be shared with the media team. Update these are necessary.

    Minimum Experience:

    • Hands-­‐on experience creating/executing successful multi-­‐platform digital marketing campaigns
    • Four+ years of experience and knowledge of media strategic planning and buying in-­‐house or at an agency
    • Previous management experience
    • Experience optimizing campaigns across Real Time Bidding environment, DSPs and DMPs
    • Ability to identify key market trends and translate data into ideas
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Outstanding communication skills, written and oral.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with others as a collaborative team player.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-­‐solving skills.

    Bully Pulpit Interactive (BPI) is a marketing and communications agency based in Washington, DC and New York, NY. Founded by the digital team behind the '08 and '12 Obama campaigns, we now serve some of the biggest names in the corporate, non-profit and political arenas.

    Candidates will have the unique opportunity to work with major political races, leading philanthropic organizations and corporations. Fellows will work closely with BPI staff in order to support an array of projects from advertising campaign and website launches, to content, email and social media strategy.

    Summer Online Marketing Fellowship

    Qualifications:
